Clown
I was first introduced to Clown during my 3rd year devising module, then during my Masters, I became intensely enthralled with the theory, history & principles of Clown.
I wrote a full-length dark farce - A Fool's Game - for my dissertation in response to my research.
I began my practical research in 2019 (training below).
It soon became clear to me that Clown was about more than performance;
it has the capacity to liberate & heal.
I'm fascinated by how the Clown's subversive nature can upend societal norms whilst remaining lovable.
The Clown is naive yet rogue.
More recently I have become interested in Clown as an act of resistance against shame, since the Clown revels in being no good.
Failure is the new success.
I want to explore how this paradigm shift can be shared with people who need it most - not only performers who need to feel free on stage - but people who feel trapped in the real world, by a nagging sense of never quite being good enough.

A short roof-top devised piece performed at Bidston Observatory, exploring the the power dynamics of the trio; how do we occupy the roles of victim, perpetrator & rescuer and also the liminalities of those points.

Small World Spring Festival 2023
I presented 2 work-in-progress skits on The Love Bus Stage. Here is my clown burlesque skit, an idea I came up with a week beforehand & was making props for on the day - with collective effort! It was entirely improvised but I aim to develop it & explore how I could integrate other props such as aerial & hula hoop.
I also did a walk-about, where I invited people to 'Donate Their Voice' if they could 'Spare a Few Words' to contribute to co-creative sandwich board artwork.

Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2024
I created my first solo show, The Hat of Many Hats, which had a 15-show run.

The Naked Truth
2025
I was asked to perform at a naturist celebration event at Mash Guru Club in Macclesfield, so I created some new material especially for the event. In The Naked Truth there was a press release where a spokes-nipple commented on behalf of the nipple, who was confined to a tiny jail cell; we set sail in the Censor Ship; heard a consumer sermon from Pastor Sauce; all of which was overseen by the modesty panel. And plenty of other silly satire and punny fun.
